    FEBRUARY 2020

    General Meeting & FREE Seminar

    Hatchery & Wild Coexist

    Presented by Dave Schamp

Hatchery & Wild Coexist is a campaign highlighting the importance of fish hatcheries and the role they play in wild fish recovery, as well as ensuring abundant fisheries. For decades, hatcheries have provided important mitigation for the loss of naturally spawned salmon and steelhead, while providing for fishing opportunity. They have helped ensure the ongoing existence of many salmon and steelhead runs, and the fisheries they support.

Their mission: SUPPORT ABUNDANT AND HEALTHY FISHERIES

    • Hatcheries have been scapegoated; It's not hatchery vs. wild, it's hatchery & wild
    • Hatcheries are not the cause of the decline of wild fish
    • Hatcheries can help increase the number of wild fish
    • It is time to change the anti-hatchery narrative

Dave will be discussing the importance of hatcheries and their role in the recovery of wild salmon and related fisheries. As a member of CCA's Oregon and National boards, and a frequent contributor to many outdoor publications and conservation programs, he is well acquainted with Northwest fisheries and their challenges. Come learn about the role of hatcheries in our local ecosystem, and how we can continue to contribute to the recovery of salmon and steelhead in the Northwest.
